Daycare & Boarding tips for your dog

Do you struggle with deciding to use daycare/boarding vs leaving your pup at home? If you were to leave your dog at home while you are out and about, chances are you will come home to chewed up garbage, belongings, and accidents. Enrolling your dog in a daycare program gives you peace of mind when you are away from home. Not only does it help pups with social skills, but it can also fend off separation anxiety and maintain a daily routine. Dogs left home alone often tend to get lonely and will be waiting for your return the minute you leave. Boredom or separation anxiety can make your furniture, shoes, and flowers collateral damage. Joining a daycare service will give your dog a safe way to have fun and exercise while you are gone. Daycare is like Disneyworld to your dog!

Finding a boarding or daycare program that best suits your needs can be overwhelming. Before enrolling, make sure your pup is up to date on vaccines and is flea free! Once that is checked off your list, you can begin poking around by searching in your local area. Look at the reviews, give the facility or person a call, and begin your interview to see the best applicant. It is okay to ask as many questions as needed! After all, this is your “child”! 😊

IN HOME CARE VS KENNEL FACILITY

Cost, location, availability, and care are all key factors to consider when finding a place or person that best suits your and your dog’s needs. Deciding if you want to use a commercial daycare or a more local small business is challenging! Narrowing down the needs of your dog is the best way to begin. Do you feel your dog will do better with a group? More one on one? How does your canine thrive? The best way to aid your choice is to simply give both a try! Most places for daycare will have a “meet and greet” before beginning services. Every family has different needs and both types of business can provide unique experiences for everyone!

No matter your choice, do what’s best for your ‘child’.

Here is your packing list for your canine:

  1. Most important!! Make sure your dog is up to date on vaccinations.
  2. Microchip your pet to protect who they are and how to locate you. Accidents happen and chipping can go a long way to returning your loving furry child to you.
  3. Pack enough food for the deration of their boarding stay – preparing extra food is a good idea, and of course; treats!
  4. Medications, vitamins and supplements with correct labeling and instructions for administration.
  5. A blanket or dog bed from home.
  6. Your dog’s kennel or crate.

Your dog will love their time to play and just be a pup. Use these tips to make it a successful event. If you have questions, feel free to contact me!
