Accepting the Loss of a Pet

Losing a loved one is never an easy situation to accept.

There is no question that dog is man’s best friend. So what happens when your canine loses their friend? Studies show that dogs feel and express emotions just like humans do.

These tips can help you and your pet accept loss in the family.

  1. Keep careful watch over your dog for signs of depression and anxiety. Seek a trainer or professional veterinary help if needed.
  2. Take your time in removing items that were used or belonged to your late pet or person.
  3. If you have more than one living pet, watch for changes in their socialization with one another.
  4. Don’t rush to get another human or dog. <- 🙃🤦🏼‍♀️
  5. Set up times throughout each day to spend quality time with your dog. Ex: go for walks, car rides, fetch, cuddling.
  6. Take your dog to daycare or having another pet friend over to play.
  7. Continue with your normal day to day life routine.
  8. Bring home your pet a new gift. Ex: toy, bone, bed, blanket, treats.
